This book chronicles the life and activities of Poopie. She is a little girl desperately trying to make sense of the people and events in her life. Together, with the other four girls in her house, she grabs life by the tail. As she navigates her neighborhood and the people that share her experiences, the reader gets a front row seat into her childhood antics, and the delights of being young. Gladys James’ delightful depiction of a life now extinct, brings explosive memories for some and gained insight to others. Her adventures can be enjoyed by Baby Boomers, Gen. X, Millennials, Gen. Z, Gen. Alpha and beyond!
Gladys James is a native Detroiter whose grandfather migrated to the big city from Bennettsville, South Carolina in 1926, at age 18. Her grandfather became a full-time factory worker and provided a sufficient living for 10 children and three grandchildren in their home on “the boulevard.” James credits her mother and the years spent living in her grandparents’ house with shaping and developing her path into successful womanhood. She is a proud product of the public school educational system. She currently holds a Doctorate in Education, a Master of Arts in Teaching, and a Bachelor in Written Communications. James has committed her life to the education of children both inside and outside of the classroom.
